The castle is situated at the north end of Loch Awe the nearest villages being Lochawe to the west and Dalmally to the east. The scenery and the mountain and loch views are stunning.
There is ample off road parking to allow visitors to see round the battlements and of course the information boards. There is no charge and this is a great place to visit for all ages.
The walk to the castle is an easy quarter mile and there is always plenty of wildlife around.
The origins of this fortress was from 1450 when it was originally built with a stunning 5 storeys. The castle was then added to over the years. This of course was part of the Campbell's land and in the 1700's it was used by the Government as a garrison against the Jackobite rebellions.
