There are three good sites to visit near Barcaldine. Just south of the hamlet (about 2miles) is the Seal Sanctuary and sea life centre. Excellent place to visit if you have a family, there are also some short walks here. For longer walking there is Sutherlands Grove Forest Park which is immediately north of Barcaldine about half a mile from the Caravan park. and a few miles further on at the very top of Loch Creran (don't go over the big bridge) is Glasdrum Wood Nature Reserve, famous for its butterflies.
