The castle
is a baronial build for one of the most ancient arms of the
Clan Campbell. This caste was the home of a long line of
Lairds of Craignish. The title is no longer in existence as
the lands were lost and sold away from the Campbells. The
castle was rebuilt in the early 19th century (about 1832)
and used as a family home.
The
Craignish peninsula is a hugely beautiful area and is easily
accessed from the main Lochgilphead to Oban road by turning
off when you see the sign for Ardfern.
The
scenery here just seems to get better even when you think it
couldn't get any better. If you are walking on the rocks at
Craignish Point, be aware that the tides run through here at
up to 8 knots. |
